I Dreamed A Tiny David Beck Heaven

By Dunja Schandin*

It is hard to put in words what makes David Beck 's art so precious to me. He triggers a lot of emotions about lifestyle, dedication, love, and humbleness.

I am a maverick myself, but I couldn't channel my gifts when I was younger.

His work has a lot of what I like. . . it is funny, imposingly detailed and mechanical. There is a kind of melancholy in everything.

There is this word "duende" I learned about not long ago:  he definitely has it! He loves the Dodo and he put so much time and energy into his thoughts about it, he keeps this bird alive, in a way. Usually we feed the creatures we love, to do so. Therefore I see David feeding the Dodo as the most pleasing imagination to make one happy. So, I did with my idea of David what he did with his idea of the Dodo.

I dreamed a tiny David heaven - with a smile.
